Being with Jesus Living on the Edge

When plans for the 2011 Peoria Convention were published, I thought Peoria, Illinois, wow, well at least we can drive there and don't have to deal with the airlines. Then the thought of Living on the Edge, in Peoria, one of the flattest places I have ever been in my entire life. What were the leaders of the LWML thinking when they came up with this theme? I can see Living as Salt and Light in Tampa, Letting Freedom Ring in Minneapolis over July 4.

Looking deeper into the verse that the theme comes from – Acts 4:13b and 20 (NKJV) 'They realized that they had been with Jesus. "For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." ' What a challenge for these disciples. Jesus was crucified by the leaders of the establishment. He died, but he rose and his faithful saw him and heard him speak. Now they were fearful of sharing the joy of his triumph. Praise God that we can share the news of Jesus. We can come together as Sisters in Christ and Praise him, do his work through our mission projects, enjoy the company of others, and sustain our organization be doing its business. Living on the edge involves sharing our faith with others, encouraging others in their faith journey, and learning about ourselves through our relationship with Jesus.

Just as we pass our faith down to our children and around to our friends and other people we meet, the tradition of the LWML is passed down through the YWR (Young Women Representative) Program. As a District we send two young women to each LWML to get them excited about the LWML, the faith, the fun, and the fellowship. This year Kari Kremer and Kristina Kuhnau are the two YWRs representing our district to go 'Live on the Edge'. Look for their experiences in the upcoming issue of the Minnesota Northern Light.

Next year for our District convention costs are lower, the distance is shorter and we can all bring a young woman along to the District convention at Breezy Point June 25-27, 2012. There will be special activities there as well as information on what LWML is and does in service and the love of Jesus. Live on the Edge, Arise! Shine! Your Light has Come...

In Christ,
